Fall Fun!!!!

As we have been learning new sight words with each reading unit, I have been adding them up on a special board for the students to use!  They look adorable, and I plan to keep adding words through the year!!!!  Click on the link if you would like to download them, but please leave a comment!

Pumpkin Project
I found a cute and short little pumpkin for my students to learn.  They love it!
Today they cut the poem apart and placed it back in order on a pumpkin, and then they drew a picture to go along with it.  They turned out adorable.

Teacher Talk Tuesday

My tips for new teachers are going to simple (I'm still working on them myself).

1.  Be creative....
Don't be afraid to create fun and exciting projects that go beyond the textbook.  The students will love it!

2.  Be flexible...
I have been teaching for eight years now, and I have moved grade levels and classrooms multiple times.  Each transition has taught me something new, and helped me prepare for the new grade level.
Also being flexible means, don't stress out when you don't get through all your lesson plans like planned.

3. Ask for help when needed from your principal or other teachers.

4.  Go to workshops to get great new ideas!!!

Meet the Teacher Monday

*I love to add glitter to any project
*Mr. Sketch markers are the best when it comes to grading papers
*I love to create projects using all sorts of colors, and I love to display everything in my room (or in the hall) with lots of color
*My favorite way to teach reading is through the use of story books.  Last year I was able to co-teach, and we taught reading only through story books, and the students loved it!!!! (I love coming up with art projects, reading ideas, and writing lessons to incorporate into each story.)
*I use post-it notes on everything
*I also got rid of file folders, and store everything in white binders for each month, season and holiday

Hope you enjoy!  Blogging is new to me, and I am still learning how to post everything.  I just hope I will be able to share some of my ideas to help others, just like the help I have received through the wonderful blogs I have read this summer!

D is for dinosaur...

I am so excited to be a part of Mrs. Parker's (http://learningwithmrsparker.blogspot.com) "Teaching the Alphabet."  Here are just a few ideas to teach the letter "D" using books about dinosaurs.  I choose to focus on the "How Do Dinosaurs...?" by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.  I have added a few reading, writing, math, and art activities.  I hope you enjoy!!!

Returning to Kindergarten!!!!

All summer I have been working on creating new things for my classroom.  I am returning to Kindergarten after teaching 1st and 2nd grade for 6 years.  I am feeling a little stressed out, because I really don't know where to begin!!!!  I am looking for any new ideas on how to start the school year, or even ideas for a daily schedule.  Please help!!!!
I am also going to try to start posting some of the things I have made.  Blogging is completely new to me, and I am still trying to figure everything out!  I promise to add activities or classroom decorations very soon!
